This week’s topic of nature study for us was the apple. We have a bunch of Golden Delicious and Staymen apples in our basement waiting to be made into sauce, so these were the two varieties we observed.
We compared their size, shape, color, texture, and taste, as well as such details as what color their “specks” were, how deep-set the stem and blossom end cavities were, and the size/shape of their cores. It’s amazing what there is to notice about an apple. And once you do notice these details, you automatically see them every time you look at that apple again!
The kids did a great job sketching both apples and making notes about what they observed in their nature journals.
And Carmen’s part was helping Mommy wash them up for apple sauce.
