November Flowers

We’ve been learning about flowers this week in science.  The geranium in particular is the one we chose to focus on for nature study.  We have two big pots that sat on our deck all summer, so we brought them inside to escape the frost.  Now they are brightening up our foyer.
And now for an up-close examination . . . .
Fuzzy, scalloped leaf.

Overlapping petals surrounding the stamen and pistil.

The fancy pistil with miniature hooks for stigmas.
The kids made note of these details in their journals:

Jefferson’s

Megan’s

Logan’s
Allison’s
And I even took time to add a sketch to my nature journal.  (It’s kind of like playing!)
Then all this past week as we took walks around our farm, we kept our eyes open for any flowers hearty enough to brave the cold.  Here are the ones we saw:
Dandelion
Honeysuckle
Thistle

Aster
